Bread and sparkling wine

This morning is a hangover of Christmas excesses-- champagne and cookies and ricotta balls and nut bread and mashed potato casserole.

Sweet memories of delicious offerings lovingly made by our mothers. Cupfuls of time, butter, and sugar. Another year of good holiday eats in the books and perhaps a few extra pounds to walk off in the New Year--some extra salad days.

Among my gifts this year, Zach and Zoe raw honey and Kate McDermott's Art of the Pie-- a new resource and a new product to work into my eating repertoire. More options and pie, well, that's right up there with the donuts and bread on my list of addictive favorites.
